Roundup and Cancer
I know everyone has seen the recent television advertising regarding Roundup herbicide as a cancer causing substance. I thought the following information might be insightful:
The EPA recently announced it will no longer approve product labels that claim glyphosate (that’s the active ingredient in Roundup) is known to cause cancer.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler recently was quoted as saying, “It is irresponsible to require labels on products that are inaccurate when EPA knows the product does not not pose a cancer risk…”
Glyphosate is a great conservation tool in todays production agriculture. It’s used on 95% of Iowa soybean acres and 71% of the corn acres. By using it, soils can be cropped by disturbing the soil less…….a tremendous tool in soil conservation! The loss of this product would certainly raise producers cost of production and hurt those soil conservation efforts.
